Many of us don’t know much of an idea about what a sealant is and where to apply it, so here we will talk about which sealant should be used to seal a PVC window it uPVC windows should always be sealed with Neutral Cure Low Modulus Sealants.<\/p>\n

Silicone Sealants could be of two kinds :<\/strong><\/h2>\n
    \n
  1. Neutral Cure Sealants<\/strong><\/li>\n
  2. Acetoxy Cure Sealants<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Silicone sealants could be further segregated into high modulus and low modulus sealants. These terms are defined as<\/p>\n

    Neutral Cure Sealants<\/em>–<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Neutral silicone sealants release alcohol as they cure, and have almost no smell. They have much better adhesive properties for a greater number of materials including PVC-U, most other plastics, glass, aluminum, lead, stone, and masonry. It cures with atmospheric moisture and skins over in about 30 minutes and leaves a shiny finish.<\/p>\n

    Acetoxy Cure Sealants<\/em>–<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Acetoxy silicone sealants release acetic acid (which smells a little like vinegar) as they cure. It is more rigid and the full cure is quick. It generally has poor adhesion qualities.<\/p>\n

    High Modulus<\/em> Sealant<\/em>–<\/strong><\/p>\n

    This kind of sealant is rigid and less flexible.<\/p>\n

    Low Modulus Sealant<\/em>–<\/strong><\/p>\n

    A low modulus sealant will require low force to stretch it so it has better elasticity and flexibility for movement. In the building industry is usually considered that linear contraction and expansion are high so low modulus sealants are more acceptable.<\/p>\n

    Hence low Modulus Neutral Cure Silicone is best for PVC windows as it is flexible, allows high movement, and has excellent adhesion.<\/p>\n
