{"id":4973,"date":"2016-05-18T05:31:43","date_gmt":"2016-05-18T05:31:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mccoymart.com\/post\/?p=4973"},"modified":"2022-11-14T11:37:01","modified_gmt":"2022-11-14T06:07:01","slug":"what-are-the-reasons-of-silicone-joint-failure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mccoymart.com\/post\/what-are-the-reasons-of-silicone-joint-failure\/","title":{"rendered":"What are the reasons for Silicone Joint failure?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>There are mainly three types of Silicone Joint failures namely-<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><em>Failure due to loss of Adhesion<\/em><\/strong> &#8211; failure of the sealant to adhere along the joint line of the surface, to which it is attached, causing it to break away from the joint.<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Cohesive Failure<\/em><\/strong>&#8211; occurs when the sealant fails to hold together. Cohesive failure can take the form of a crack or tear in both the horizontal and vertical directions of the sealant.<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Substrate Failure<\/em><\/strong>&#8211; It is not a failure of the sealant, but of the surface to which it is supposed to adhere.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>The main reasons for Silicone Joint failure are &#8211;<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>When the wrong <a href=\"https:\/\/mccoymart.com\/post\/what-is-a-silicone-sealant\/\">silicone<\/a> is used for the joint.<\/li>\n<li>When the joint width and\/or depth are too great or too small.<\/li>\n<li>Excessive movement in the joint sealed.<\/li>\n<li>Contamination of surfaces due to &#8216;dirty&#8217; materials.
