Since the inception of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway in 2002, Pune hadn’t gone through much infrastructure development. The dry spell might be breaking, with Rs 65,000 crore worth of investments ready to be used for the construction and design of a new airport, a new Metro link, and a Ring Road, apart from other projects. Combining this with the Rs10,000 crore which has been assigned to facilities like water and sewerage alongside the various Smart City projects.

A part of money is going to be invested in the Chhatrapati Sambhaji Raje International Airport at Purandar which is currently waiting the Centre’s approval.
A proposed ring road to provide smooth connectivity with the airport is being estimated to be a Rs 17,412-crore project. The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) would build the 128-km eight-lane Ring Road. The PMRDA will also be constructing the third Metro line in Pune which would connect the Hinjewadi IT-BT hub to the heart of the city, which on a PPP basis would cost around Rs 7,500 crore.
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced that it would be investing Rs 18,000 crore in the city’s traffic and transport system over the next four years.
