The North Eastern Council, NEC, is a vital agency for the development of social and economic aspects of the Northeast. It has funded an upgradation of infrastructure in 12 operational airports in the area. Union Minister Jitendra Singh said that a lot of emphasis has been put on the Transport and Communication sector by the NEC; it has constructed 10,500 kms of roads including interstate and roads of economic importance. The allocation cost has been increased from Rs 800 Crore to Rs.1,118 crore for the year 2016-2017 so there is proper air connectivity in the area.
