The membership drive was a special initiative for southern markets to initiate new memberships and then involve the members from this belt to get associated with UWDMA in its endeavor to reform the industry. The Chennai event was hosted at Zak Expo &Convention Centre in uptown Alwarpet and was sponsored by Deceuninck. Similarly, in Bangalore, the event was held in Hotel Palms Avenue sponsored by Torfenster.

For both the events, welcome tea at the registration desk marked the beginning of the event followed by the keynote speech. Further, the recap and updating on the past events of UWDMA were done. Then the draft of the long term Mission 2020 of UWDMA was shared with the members which primarily entails 3 points –

  • Standardization: Converging to UWDMA as the Voice of the Industry
  • Government Liaison: Strengthening UWDMA as a link for the industry with the Government
  • Skill development: By organizing and conducting rigorous pieces of training workshops

Standards on windows and doors were discussed and long and interactive panel discussions on industry bottlenecks with prime focus on issues faced by the fabricators were brought forward. The idea was to appoint leads from the south so that efficient and effective participation of this belt continues to happen in the forthcoming initiatives of UWDMA across the country. Both the events had the arrangement of dinner for the invited delegates. In Bangalore, there was a special address by Shamit Biswas on “PVC @100 years and going strong” followed by individual speeches by Rajesh Chawla, VEKA and Narendra Patel, Torfenster, while in Chennai, the event progressed with the help and presence of Mario Schmidt, Lingel Windows, Vikas Malhotra, DNV Solutions, JatinderWasan, Skyframes, M.L.
