Naya Raipur, Chhattisgarh’s capital city, has been recognized as world’s first ever integrated township in the world. It is located between the National Highway-6 and National Highway-3 and is situated 17 kms out of the current city of Raipur with Swami Vivekananda Airport joining the two locations. Naya Raipur accommodates 41 villages in it, with complete facilities such as roads, parks and water pipelines provided. Naya Raipur is the sixth planned city in the country after Jamshedpur (Jharkhand), Bhubaneshwar (Odisha), Gandhinagar (Gujarat), Chandigarh (Punjab & Haryana), and Navi Mumbai (Maharashtra). Some of the main consultants who worked for the project were: Comfort Designers, Hyderabad for Architectural Consultation; Uttam C. Jain of UCJ Architecture & Environment, Mumbai as architects for the Capitol Complex; and Sheladia Associates Inc., USA as Project Management Consultants.

The city is being developed keeping in mind affordable housing for the residents, financial centre for the region, a hub for educational, medical and cultural facilities, and manufacturing of goods, Information Technology and Bio-Technology sectors. The planning of the city is based on a grid-iron pattern of roads which forms a number of sectors.
The city is expected to house about 4.5 lakh (450,000) people within the coming decade.
