What is Recon Veneer?

Recon veneer is also known as reconstitution veneer, it is a thin layer of wood sheets. Recon veneer is cut from the logs of a hardwood such as basswood and a poplar. Recon veneer is an engineered veneer that is dyed to give it color and pattern.

The manufacturing process of Reconstituted Veneer

The step by step process of making reconstituted veneer is as follows:

  1. Cutting: The first step involved in recon wood veneer manufacturing is peeling the wood logs into thin layers. Manufacturers generally adopt a rotary cut method to produce recon veneer. Under this method, the log is rotated around the axis and a knife placed against the log cut it into thin layers of wood.
  2. Dyeing: the second step involved in manufacturing recon veneer is dying, this step is considered important. The layers of veneer produced in the first step in color dyed by immersing them. The veneer sheets are stained in water-based dye solution which is free from metals and toxic materials. Some manufacturers color dye the veneer sheets multiple times for ensuring colorfastness
  3. Pattern: Once the veneer sheets are dyed to the desired color the next step is mixing the sheets. The dyed veneer sheets are mixed to form interesting and colorful patterns. The recon veneer so produced showcases the beauty and amount of work that has gone into producing them.
  4. Gluing: the fourth step in the process of manufacturing recon veneer is gluing. Each veneer sheet is applied glue and stacked like blocks.   5. Pressing: the final sheet that is involved in the manufacturing process of veneer sheets is pressing. The glued veneer sheets are pressed together with the help of presser and weights. This result in creating a log-like structure that is sanded and cut to make different products.
