Wood is a preferred material for making furniture. But working with wood is laborious and expensive. Plywood is the cost-effective more alternative to make high-quality furnishing and interior works. It is nothing but plies of wood veneer that is glued together. Since it is made of layers of wood veneers, it is possible to make plywood from hardwood, softwood or a combination of these woods.
The plywood is made using the cross graining technique. It means that each layer of wood in the ply wood is placed in such a way that each adjacent layer is rotated up to 90 degrees when it is glued so that the grains are at opposite angles. This is done to ensure that the plies do not split when nailed at the corners.

Plywood is sold in the form of Sheets. The dimensions of the sheets are different for different manufacturers. The size, width, length, and thickness of the plywood would vary depending on a manufacturer’s product line and the type of plywood. The standard size, however, is 4 feet in width and 8 feet in length. Therefore, when you say you are buying a 4X8 sheet of plywood of 1-inch thickness, the plywood sheet would be exactly 4 feet in width and 8 feet in height and it would also be about 1 inch thick. The sheets of plywood are available either as 4X8 32 Sqft sheets or 4x12 Sqft sheets. You also have other sizes of plywood which includes 6X3ft, 6x4 ft, 7X3ft, 7X4ft, and 8X3ft.
The plywood sheets are available in different grades and they comply with the standards set for them in that country. They are graded from A to D where A stands for the best quality and D stands for the lowest quality. you also have combination grades such as A-C. this means that one side of the plywood sheet is of good quality while the other is of a poor quality.
Based on how good the plywood is for use in certain purposes owing to their bonding qualities you have
The thickness of the plywood depends upon the type of plywood. The thickness ranges of different types of plywood are different. You have the MR grade plywood of thickness in mm ranging between 3mm-25mm, you also have the blackboards with a thickness of 19mm or 25mm. in general you can have plywood varying in thickness in the order of 3mm, 4mm, 5mm, 6mm, 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 15mm, 18mm, 19mm, 21mm, 22mm, and 25mm.
The 18mm plywood is the most sought-after plywood because it could be used for different types of applications with ease. It is available in different sizes starting from 4x8, 5x8, 6x4, 8x4, 8X3, 10x5, 7X4, 7x3, 6x4 and 6X3ft. the cost is about Rs.34/sq.ft.
