“Photographs and other display material based on the socio-economic, cultural and political aspects and conditions of pre-and post-Independence period, the contribution and sacrifice of our freedom fighters would be depicted in the museum,” the council said in a statement.

“The museum would have four components – photo exhibition, documentary films, freedom movement and paintings and sculpture. We are in touch with some organisations, government departments and individuals to procure rare items,” an NDMC official said. Through this, the NDMC aims to create awareness and sensitise the younger generations about the city’s past. The Gole Market is “inextricably linked to the birth of New Delhi as an imperial capital city of British India. Built as a subsidiary market to Connaught Place, it was designed to serve the needs of the residential population,” adds Kumar on the importance.

The restoration and the final setting up is expected to get completed by September 2018.
